“And the LORD said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hand, and let all the others go every man to his home.” Judges 7:7
June 2018
June! Can you believe it? June is such a grand month with school being out and happy voices echoing through the house, weddings in abundance and vacation plans being made. It also marks the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War, June 5 – 10, 1967. Do you remember that? I do. We didn’t have the communications systems then as we do now, but the world knew Israel was at war and watched with bated breath. There were so many negative predictions yet through the grace of God Israel not only survived but was victorious in repelling the attack from five Arab nations and retaking all of Judea and Samaria. Praise God! However, ever since that victory Israel has been fighting another war and that is an ugly war against anti-Semitism, lies, and the proposed destruction of Israel via any means possible by the Arabs.
That war of destruction is continuing now, even as I write this letter. Israel is burning. At a time when her crops are almost ready for harvest and tourism is high, Israel is burning. There have been so many disgusting attacks against Israel over the years, hideous attacks, and this one is no less than the previous ones. So far, thank God, there hasn’t been any loss of life, but there has been a tremendous loss of crops, property and a sense of safety as kites with Molotov cocktails are flown across the Gaza/Israel border into Israel, to land wherever they may, ignite and start fires.
Sometimes we have a tendency to forget what this war – the current trouble – is all about. It is about a lie – a huge lie – that has been perpetrated on the world for fifty years. It is about a homeland for the poor Palestinian people who were “forced out” of their homes and their land by the mean Israelis. The truth is: 1. There was never a homeland for the Palestinian people because, 2. The Palestinian people didn’t exist, they were/are Arabs and, 3. The Arabs living in Israel in 1948 and 1967 were invited to stay and help Israel build a homeland for all of them.
The world doesn’t get it, nor does it seem to want to get it. Tragic as that is, you and I understand and that puts us in the catbird seat for having a responsibility to stand up and be counted for Israel. It is incumbent on us to educate ourselves and to teach others, while we yet can.
In the meantime, Israel is burning. This isn’t just a random act of violence. It is an ongoing, never ending act that is performed by men, women and children – yes, children – to bring Israel down and to make her look bad in the eyes of the world. The BDS movement hasn’t brought Israel down so perhaps fire will bring her down. Or rockets. Or knife attacks. Or car ramings. Or bombs. Or home invasions. The murderous attempts continue yet Israel manages to survive by the grace of God.
Those of us who are standing on the outside shake our heads in anger and in awe of what is happening and wonder what we can do, if anything. I believe the only difference we can make at this time is to call our Congress people, whomever they are and urge them to stand with Israel and to cut off any and all financial support to the Palestinian Authority until this ALL stopes. Prayer is our weapon of choice and we need to wield it with a strong arm, a determined voice and a loud trumpeting sound.
Let us pray:
- Israel’s protection from all attacks, whether they are from inside or outside.
- God’s protection for her borders, her airspace, her water supply and her underground
- That God blows an eastern wind that turns the kites back towards Gaza and allows them to crash right there – in Gaza – where their hateful masters reside.
- That Israelis unite behind their government leaders as they stand against these attacks.
