HEALING FROM TRAUMA THROUGH ART
The pioneers of Tekoa, a community just south of Jerusalem, have embraced art as a source of resilience, hope and livelihood. Art has also been their catalyst for healing from horrific terrorist attacks. During the current war, the Tekoa Art Center, which opened five years ago and has been supported by CFOIC Heartland, has become a place of refuge—where families gather, participate in creative workshops, and nurture the bonds that anchor them through uncertain times.
Towards that end, the Tekoa Art Center launched an initiative that is uniquely designed to help individuals and communities heal from the traumas of October 7, 2023. Through a variety of workshops, participants are given the space and tools to emotionally process all the hardships they have encountered over the past year and a half, using different forms of art including writing, illustrating, photography and theater.
The workshops are tailored to be modified according to the specific needs which are most relevant for a particular community or group of people in any given event. Already, the Tekoa Art Center has hosted both singular events and multiple gatherings for more than several communities across Israel, helping them heal from the wounds and traumas of October 7th. Tekoa’s pioneers would like to bring these special workshops to many more communities, but they need your support to do so.
