Keeping Kosher

What is Kosher?

The word kosher is used in many ways. It has become slang for “alright” or “approved.” It is part of the label on certain types of pickles. And it is usually associated with Jews. But so few people really know what kosher is and how it connects to Scripture.

Sondra Oster Baras, an Orthodox Jew who has devoted her life to reaching out to Christians all over the world to bless Israel, explains the Jewish concept of Kosher, complete with Biblical and modern practical explanations. And Kimberly Troup, Christian Zionist director of CFOIC Heartland’s US office, and Tommy Waller, Christian Zionist director of HaYovel, share Christian perceptions and misperceptions of kosher. A key to understanding the practical ins and outs of Jewish-Christian friendships!

If there is a topic you would like to see Sondra and Tommy discuss in a future episode, please let us know. Send us your thoughts and questions at Kim@cfoic.com

If you understand Kosher, it will be that much easier for you to host a Jewish friend. It is not hard and the best approach to that is just to ask your Jewish friend what he or she is willing to eat in your home. And then enjoy each other’s company.
