There is very little mention of Shiloh in the Book of Judges, even though we know it functioned as a center of worship and sacrifice throughout the period. But the Book of Samuel opens with the moving and beautiful story of the birth of Samuel, which focuses on the family of Elkanah and their pilgrimage journey to Shiloh for each holiday. Indeed, Jewish tradition tells us that Elkanah was very devoted to Shiloh and would travel each pilgrimage holiday from his home in the Mountain of Ephraim to Shiloh, spreading the messages of G-d along the way to all who would listen.
Today, there is a lovely Jewish community, in the Mountain of Ephraim, very close to where Elkanah lived thousands of years ago. The community is Etz Ephraim and the people of that community are devoted to spreading God’s messages near and far, but most importantly to their own children and youth. Their youth center is a place where teenagers are nurtured and encouraged to embrace their heritage. The library is a place where the community gathers and celebrates as well as a place for reading and study. Etz Ephraim is continuing the legacy of Elkanah and you can partner with them as they deepen their roots in Biblical Israel.
May God bless you richly!
