Hebron/Kiryat Arba Virtual Tour

Sondra and Danny are eager to bring you Episode 3 of CFOIC Heartland’s Virtual Tours! Let them lead you on a journey through Biblical history as you visit the holy city of Hebron, home of the Cave of the Matriarchs and Patriarchs (Cave of Machpela) where Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, and Jacob and Leah are buried. Then on to Kiryat Arba, the modern Jewish community just outside Hebron with an extraordinary history of its own. You don’t want to miss it!

I remember vividly Israel’s victory in the Six Day War. I was only 10 years old but had already been well-steeped in the Bible. So hearing that Hebron and the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs were once again in our hands was thrilling indeed. Then, just a few months later, the daughter of a family friend who was studying in Jerusalem joined the small pioneering group that returned to settle in Hebron. When I came to Israel for my own year in Jerusalem in 1975, I visited her in her simple apartment in Kiryat Arba and I knew she had made history.

Today Hebron and Kiryat Arba are full of Jews who have come from all over Israel and from all over the world, to settle in the first Jewish city in history. They have had to deal with incredible challenges, most of all horrific terrorism that has taken the lives of young and old alike. But the people of Kiryat Arba have embraced life and place special priority on enriching the lives of the weakest members of society – the elderly and special-needs children.
