Vaera (And I Appeared) – Exodus 6:2 – 9:35

Shabbat Shalom!

The journey of redemption is not always a straight path. In Parashat Va’era, the people of Israel, once filled with hope after Moses’ arrival, are now consumed by despair. Pharaoh’s harsh decrees have crushed their spirit, making it hard to believe in the promises of deliverance.

Yet, even in their darkest hour, God’s covenant remains firm. In Exodus 6:8, He reminds them of His unwavering plan:
“I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hands to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.”

This week’s portion also highlights the profound symbolism of redemption, likened in the Song of Songs (2:8) to a gazelle that appears and disappears from sight. Just as deliverance may seem near yet far away, faith requires us to trust even when the outcome is hidden.

May the bravery of figures like Chacham Emanuel, who stood for truth and the unbreakable bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, inspire us all. His story reminds us that holding fast to faith, even under immense pressure, can change history and bring us closer to the fulfillment of God’s promises.

Thank you for joining me on this exploration of Shemot (Exodus).

Shabbat Shalom!
