Welcome to a new series Shabbat Shalom from Shmuel! This week’s portion is Beresheet: In the beginning. Why does the Torah open with this story? How does this portion relate to the land of Israel? David Ben-Gurion used what to assert the Jewish right to their homeland?! All this and more in today’s episode.

  1. Shmuel, we met during CUFI Summit in Washington DC this past July, when Sondra and I were sitting in the hospitality room. Todah Rabah for teaching the Parasha, like Sondra has done for us in years past! I have her book SHABBAT SHALOM – Insights On The Weekly Torah Portion, and will follow along with your teachings each week. In closing…everyone in the CFOIC family, your extended-families and friends are on my heart with prayers – yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever more!! Blessings, Debbie Cope (Southern Louisiana) — AM YISRAEL CHAI!!!!!!!!

  2. Shmuel, My Brother,

Thank you for a most interesting lesson. The land of Israel belongs to the Eternal One and it is His right to give it to whom he pleases. And He chose the slaves he brought out of the land Egypt who were the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. Puny man shakes his fist and pits his feeble wits against Elohim who said:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord, for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
