Jews often refer to this time of year as the High Holy Days. It is a time that includes the Jewish New Year and the Day of Atonement. The Bible does not reference a New Year but refers instead to a “Day of Blowing”, implying the Shofar. Many Christian Bibles erroneously translate these words and refer to the day as the Feast of Trumpets. Definitely confusing! Thanks to centuries of muddled translations and misunderstandings, the meaning and traditions of these sacred days have so often been lost. But in this episode of Facing the Divide we will try and clarify it all for you.
