Purim – A Triumph of Good Over Evil

Even as war with Iran intensifies, Israelis are celebrating Purim – the incredible story of Esther, a tale that unfolds in ancient Persia, known today as Iran. It’s a time TODAY to remeber and to pray for bravery, resilience, and the triumph of good over evil! Click below to watch as our Sarah shares about the importance of Purim!

“In about a month, we will recite the funeral prayer for Trump, the United States, and their allies.”

Those remarks were made by the Iranian Parliament’s Deputy Speaker, Hamid Reza Haji Babaee, at the very beginning of February. Unbeknownst to him, at least on a conscious level, Babaee issued his threats exactly one month before “Shushan Purim,” the 15th day of the Jewish month of Adar, when the Jews of the ancient Persian city of Shushan (Susa) “rested” and celebrated after defeating and annihilating their enemies the day before (Esther 9:18). All other Jews throughout the Persian Empire “rested” on the previous day, the 14th of Adar, when the holiday of “Purim” is celebrated by Jews outside of walled cities (Esther 9:19).

Notably, for his part, U.S. President Donald Trump, while aboard Air Force One on February 19, set a deadline of “10, 15 days, pretty much maximum” for Iran to reach an agreement with the United States. Strikingly, “day 15” would fall on or around Shushan Purim.

To non-believers, the comments made by Babaee and Trump would amount to nothing more than striking and strange coincidence. But to ardent believers, or perhaps more accurately, to those who acknowledge and serve the God of Israel, there are NO coincidences. The God who created the Heavens and the Earth is truly the One and only One pulling the strings behind the scenes. This is very much one of the key messages and lessons of the Purim story.

If one reads every line and word carefully throughout the entire Book of Esther, he or she will not find God’s name even once. Yet the devoted Bible reader and believer can clearly identify God’s “Hand,” and even His character, throughout the book. There was no convenient coincidence when “the king’s sleep was disturbed” in Chapter 6, verse 1, an event that set a chain of circumstances in motion, leading to a complete 180-degree reversal on the very day, the 13th of Adar, that Haman had designated to annihilate the Jewish people. God always had a plan in motion, allowing Haman, in the spirit of Proverbs 16:18, to elevate himself to the highest levels of pride and haughtiness before his ultimate destruction and fall.

Similarly today, God is moving and pulling the strings right before our eyes! As with Haman, the Ayatollah and mullahs in Iran, carrying that same pride and haughtiness and seeking to wreak destruction upon the Jews, will surely face destruction and fall.

May we all merit to see God’s glory revealed through His salvation of Israel and ALL those among the nations of the world who stand proudly and faithfully with the God, Land and People of Israel.
