How are people coping in Israel?

by Shmuel Junger

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a leader who has dedicated decades of his life to public service on behalf of the state of Israel surprised many during a recent address at the Accountant General’s Conference in Jerusalem several weeks ago. In his speech, Netanyahu said that Israel is experiencing “a sort of isolation” that could last for a number of years. Netanyahu used purportedly stark rhetoric, speaking of an immediate need for Israel to operate in a manner similar to historic Athens or a “Super-Sparta,” relying on itself to persevere and achieve success.

Netanyahu later clarified that he was primarily referring to self-reliance in the weapons and defense industries. But anyone who knows Netanyahu knows that so few of his words are accidentally uttered. Netanyahu’s message was in fact a deliberate one – that this is in fact a very serious and new reality for Israel and its friends around the world, and it must be accepted by the Israeli people.

We at CFOIC Heartland have observed this development very clearly. Since October 7, 2023, the global narrative about Israel has by and large quickly and painfully shifted against us. In too short of a time, our brave and courageous soldiers defending our nation and land have been painted as aggressors. False accusations and libels have become all too commonplace. We are challenging some of these false narratives – in legal and public forms – including in response to recent UN reporting because the truth of course always matters. But alongside the political and legal spheres, we at CFOIC Heartland hold a much deeper, theological perspective: Perhaps these trials are not merely political. As Bible believers who look at history and read Scripture through lens of faith, we cannot dismiss that God Himself is allowing this phenomenon to occur, perhaps as a test to see who among the nations will decide to stand with Israel during these challenging times.

This is why your support matters so much. You are one of our many dear friends from around the world who, while relatively small in number relative to the global population, are incredible sources of love. You have stood with Israel when few among the nations have chosen to, and your faith-driven support has been a shield of strength and a guiding light. Today, as global opinion grows ever more hostile against Israel, your prayers and support are more precious than ever.

As we begin this Hebrew New Year of 5786, I would like to extend my gratitude to you and to acknowledge every prayer, gift, letter and action that you have taken on our behalf. We in the Biblical Heartland feel your love and are truly strengthened by your close friendship. And most importantly, we know we are not alone because friends like you have our backs.

I ask that you continue to stand with us in three practical ways:

1. Pray for the wisdom of our leaders, protection of our people and for truth to be revealed globally.

2. Stand publicly by sharing our testimony and speaking out wherever and whenever you can.

3. Support us by helping Israeli families and communities in the Biblical Heartland with their crucial needs. Your support truly fuels real work on the ground that changes lives.

From all of us at CFOIC Heartland, thank you again! May God grant you and your loved ones a sweet New Year of safety, strength, happiness and peace! Shana Tova!
