How are people coping in Israel?

Join me now, as I enter Avigayil…

This is my very first visit to the community of Avigayil – a community in progress. Located in a predominantly barren region in the Hebron Hills, Avigayil is surrounded on all sides by hostile Arab villages, including the large city of Yatta. The community was established in 2001, during the height of the Second Intifada, by a small group of incredibly courageous pioneers committed to defending their Biblical inheritance.

While this budding community is still relatively small and primitive, its story demonstrates the constant struggle the Jewish people are facing in their ancestral land. With Arab illegal land seizures and construction, the people of Avigayil are engaged in a never-ending battle to possess every inch of their land.

After more than two years, I am thrilled to finally welcome our first tour groups. I hope to see you all here in Israel soon, where I can take you on a tour of Avigayil and introduce you, in person, to its dedicated pioneers. Living in Avigayil is not easy. Still relatively undeveloped with primitive infrastructure, there are only 50 families, including 150 children and teens, living there today. Despite rising hostility nearby, these inspiring pioneers are raising their children to be responsible adults and contributing members of Israeli society. But to reduce tensions and calm anxieties, it is critical for the community to create social and cultural outlets for its teenagers. By supporting a youth center for their teens, you will send a strong message to the people of Avigayil that you support their efforts to settle the land.
