About Shimah
On southern edges of the Hebron Hills lies the community of Shimah, bearing the name after King David’s brother. A small but growing community of over 100 families, Shimah was originally founded in the 1980s as a military outpost and in 1988, was subsequently converted into a civilian community in 1988. The community boasts a pioneering spirit, as the residents share a mutual commitment to preserving Israel’s presence in the Biblical Heartland. Shimah also has a student village that provides affordable housing for university students who attend Ben Gurion University in Beersheba, just 25 minutes south of the community. Despite the determination and dedication of Shimah’s pioneers, life in the community has often been shadowed by the threat of terrorism from nearby Arab villages. Nevertheless, the families of Shimah remain steadfast, committed to building and safeguarding a vibrant Jewish presence in the Hebron Hills!
