About Givon HaChadasha
Named after the ancient Biblical city of Gibeon mentioned in the Bible, Givon HaChadasha has a rich history of repeated settlement and renewal. Originally founded in 1895 by Yemenite Jewish families, the community was later abandoned due to hardship. Resettled again in 1924, residents fled due to the Arab riots in 1929. In 1977, a decade after the Biblical Heartland was liberated by the People of Israel in the Six Day War, ideological pioneers reestablished Givon HaChadasha, creating the modern community that exists today. Now home to more than 300 families, Givon HaChadasha is primarily secular but also includes religious families and an active synagogue. Over the years, Givon HaChadasha has absorbed many Jews who moved to Israel from the former Soviet Union alongside, creating a diverse and resilient community. Located near the spot of Joshua’s battle at Gibeon when the sun miraculously stood still, Givon HaChadasha continues to thrive as a welcoming, close-knit community!
