Founded in 1981 by a group of ideological pioneers including many Jews who made aliyah after escaping persecution in the former Soviet Union, Barkan has grown and prospered continuously since that time. Inspired by the late Prime Minister Menachem Begin’s dedication towards rebuilding Judea and Samaria, Barkan’s first pioneers established the community on a barren hilltop with a shared commitment to do their part in restoring the Biblical Heartland. Over time, Barkan has grown into a thriving, suburban-style community with homes, gardens and a large industrial park. The future is only up for Barkan!
