Vayigash is a dramatic portion. As Judah pled for Benjamin’s freedom, Joseph realized that his brothers had changed and that they cared deeply for one another. Joseph could then feel confident about revealing himself to them.

Hanukkah has drawn to a close, but the eighth day of Hanukkah holds the special distinction of being above nature. Judah fought his nature to advocate for his wronged brother Benjamin. Joseph fought his nature to resist Potiphar’s wife. And every day brave men and women in Israel rise about their nature to protect the nation. May we all merit to be resilient and rise above our own nature.

Shabat shalom!
