About Ovnat

Founded in 1984, Ovnat is a small but growing religious community situated by the western shores of the Dead Sea. Originally established as a military outpost, Ovnat began to take shape as a civilian settlement in 2004 after the opening of “Yiftach,” a school and boarding program for religious boys. At first, the community primarily comprised the school’s staff and their families, but over the years Ovnat has expanded to include many others drawn to the religious tenets and values held by the community’s residents. Today, over 200 pioneers reside in Ovnat, many of whom still live in temporary housing. Despite its modest size and isolation, Ovnat thrives as a warm, close-knit community with a strong spirit of faith, education, adherence to the Bible and commitment to the Biblical Heartland.
