About Nokdim

Located at the base of the ancient Herodian fortress just seven miles southeast of Jerusalem, Nokdim is a thriving community overlooking the Judean Desert. Established on July 5, 1982, it was originally named “El-David” in memory of two Tekoa residents, one named Eli Pressman who was killed in the First Lebanon War and another David Rosenfeld, who was murdered in a terror attack. Translated to “shepherds” in Biblical Hebrew, the community was later named “Nokdim” in an apparent reference to the Biblical prophet Amos who lived in the region as a shepherd. Today, Nokdim is home to over 1,700 pioneers of many religious stripes as well as a large number of Jews who left the lands of their upbringing to move to Israel. Known for its welcoming nature, Nokdim exemplifies a unique spirit of national unity.
