About Elazar
Founded in 1975 in the heart of the Gush Etzion regional bloc and along the historic Path of the Patriarchs, Elazar was originally established as a cooperative agricultural community by Jews who had moved to Israel from North America. The community bears the name of “Elazar,” a brother of Judah the Maccabee who heroically fell in battle nearby. Becoming a regular community in the late 1980s, Elazar grew from just 25 families at its establishment to more than 350 families today comprising both native Israelis and other Jews who have moved to Israel. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and strong social fabric, Elazar boasts a warm and peaceful environment that offers its residents a high quality of life.
