Founded in 1974 by a group of ideological and religious pioneers, Ofra was the first modern Jewish community in the Benjamin region. The government, at the time of Ofra’s establishment, was reluctant to promote the restoration and rebuilding of the Biblical Heartland. However, driven by deep faith and determination, Ofra’s original pioneers remained steadfast. They took modest jobs at a local army base as they laid the foundations for a thriving community. Local initiatives and programs such as “Heart of Benjamin,” which helps and guides families of special-needs and severely disabled children, exemplify Ofra’s dedication to serving the greater community in the Biblical Heartland and the rest of Israel.
