INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION
The dedicated pioneers who settled and rebuilt the Hebron Hills region have chosen the path much less traveled. Living on the isolated southern edges of Judea, the residents of the 20 communities in the Hebron Hills are not afforded the benefits and privileges so readily available to residents in major population centers like Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Moreover, many of the communities are in proximity to large Arab villages. Yet, recognizing the critical importance of rebuilding and restoring every corner of the Biblical Heartland, these bold pioneers have made the Hebron Hills their home.
Notwithstanding the commitment of the region’s pioneers, the Hebron Hills is at risk of experiencing a negative rate of migration among those in the population between the ages of 18 and 35 due to the pull factors of urban areas. Recognizing this potential problem, the Hebron Hills Regional Council established in the community of Shimah a regional center to offer young adults more employment opportunities as part of a greater effort to strengthen their bonds and connection to the Hebron Hills.
According to the regional council’s vision, the center would serve as a primary location for vocational training programs and workshops designed to give young adults in the Hebron Hills more employment options in the region. With more opportunities comes new pull factors incentivizing younger residents to stay in the Hebron Hills and contribute to the continued development of the region. The center for young adults has been fully renovated but still needs to be furnished in order to function properly.
